JOB VACANCY – COMMUNICATIONS AND ADMIN OFFICER

Cordaid is the Catholic Organisation for Relief and Development Aid. We are a member of the international Caritas Network and have come to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Yolanda to contribute to the recovery and to look forward to building a more resilient future for the affected communities.

In the Coron Municipality of Busuanga Island, Palawan six barangays: Malawig, Buenavista, Tara, Banuang Daan, Cabugao and Guadalupe (A total of 1,866 households) have been selected for Cordaid’s ‘Resilient Communities Projects’ Though this program Cordaid intends to implement over the coming two years an integrated program (shelter, water, sanitation, livelihood, DRR and protection) for recovery and development, ending December 2015. A field team comprising a program coordinator, community development and technical staff has been set up, located and operating from the Cordaid / AVT-SAC / NASSA Offices, Coron Town.

Cordaid is currently looking for a Communications and Admin Officer for its ‘Resilient Communities Projects’ program in Coron after the disaster caused by typhoon Haiyan.

Specifically Cordaid is looking for socially motivated Professionals that want to use these academic knowledge to contribute to making a safer and more resilient country.

  1. Location: Coron, Palawan
  2. Line manager: Program Coordinator
  3. Purpose of the job: As a Communications Officer, this position aims to develop and implement the communication strategy (i.e. public relations, social media) of Cordaid in order to heighten the impact of Resilient Communities Projects. On the other hand, an Admin Officer aims to maintain the day-to-day administrative and personnel services of the organisation in order to support the daily operations.
  4. Tasks and Responsibilities

As a Communications Officer:

.· Contributing to social media outputs which highlight the organisation’s work (i.e., regularly updating the Resilient Communities in Coron’s page through Akvo, submitting Facebook updates to be posted on the main Facebook page of Cordaid)

· Writing regular Human Interest Stories based on the communities

· Documenting all the events related to the projects through writing and taking photos

· Managing/organising the photo collection

· Documenting the project progress

· Documenting approach/process/tools that are used

· Spending time embedded in the communities with our teams

As an Admin Officer:

· Tracking the staff’s attendance and anything to do with their leave requests

· Working with the management in developing operating policies and other procedures (i.e., office rules and regulations)

· Managing the lease agreements and utilities; vehicle supervision and maintenance

· Keeping tabs on all the documents in the office; properly filing every paper work that has to do with the office, staff, and other files from external organisations

· Posting job advertisements should the need for it arise; monitoring and tracking the application process, up until the selection of the right candidate

· Keeping a portfolio with all the responsibilities, staff contracts; and securing approvals

· Monitoring and implementing support services, including procurement of supplies and services; transport, travel and traffic, technology and communications; and provision of local utilities and service requirements

· Overseeing all the materials, facilities, and technology used by the whole team; making sure everything is working well (i.e., office inventory)

· Coordinating meetings among the staff, spearheading team building activities, and maintaining calendars to ensure timeliness

· Arranging the visitors’ flights and accommodation in Coron

  1. Qualifications

· With a bachelor’s degree in Communications or equivalent—Journalism, Speech or Broadcast Communication, Management, Marketing

· Experience in the same field is an advantage

· Ability to work in a team, willingness to multi-task and work under pressure; and willingness to travel

· Ability to meet deadlines

· Excellent proficiency in verbal and written English

· Willing to attend occasional overnight stays at the distant barangays of Coron
