Cordaid believes in a world without poverty and exclusion. We strive for just and sustainable societies where every person counts. We stand for knowledge and talent sharing between North and South, between farmers and businesses, between activists and policymakers. Where poverty, conflict and exclusion divide societies, we connect people and communities. We stand for professionalism, expertise and solidarity across borders. We aim at maximizing our social impact and contributing to systemic change. We operate where natural disasters strike, where conflicts tear up communities and where lack of opportunities and service delivery keep families in extreme poverty.
Cordaid is one of the leading CSO’s in the Netherlands, working in fragile contexts on Health, Resilience, Economic opportunities, Humanitarian aid and Security & Justice. Apart from our work abroad we also contribute to new forms of job creation and social innovation in The Netherlands.
Cordaid is a member of the international Catholic networks Caritas and CIDSE and we are active in worldwide civil society networks. We work in around 30 countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia.
For the Country Office in Iraq, Erbil, Cordaid is looking for a Director Country Office
Introduction
As a direct consequence of the violence and conflicts in the region, currently an estimated 8.2M people in Iraq require immediate humanitarian support and this number is likely to increase by the end of 2016 as a result of the Mosul campaign.
Displaced families have found safety in villages, towns and cities throughout the country, hosted by local communities and supported by the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
An alliance of Dutch NGOs is currently present in North Iraq and is implementing humanitarian aid programmes in North Iraq; this Alliance of Dutch organizations launched a joint Humanitarian Response on the 1st of January, 2015 (North Iraq Joint Response 1/ NIJR1), funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A second NIJR ends on the 31rst December, 2016 to be succeeded by a third phase in 2017.
There are 12 NGOs participating in the North Iraq Joint Humanitarian Appeal: War Child, Stichting Vluchteling, Dorcas, TEAR Foundation, CARE, Cordaid, ICCO Cooperatie, OXFAM-Novib, Save the Children, World Vision, ZOA and Terre des Hommes.
Additionally, Cordaid has developed a € 2.000.000 Mosul response program to deal with the recently started Mosul campaign which will have dramatic consequences for the IDP and refugee headcount.
The proposed assistance under the NIJR2 and 3 program as well as the Mosul response to IDPs, Syrian refugees and host communities, will save lives and reduce the vulnerability of the targeted people. This in turn will also contribute to reducing tension amongst refugees/IDPs and host communities, due to a conflict sensitive approach. Both will have a positive effect on the possibilities to link relief with rehabilitation and development oriented programmes when local context allows.
In addition to this Cordaid implements humanitarian interventions in Lebanon and Syria.
Cordaid aims to expand its program, both in terms of content and geographic coverage. Ways are explored to introduce longer term rehabilitation and –development elements such as health systems reform as well as a focus on community level protection & security and justice aspects. Future interventions in Turkey and Jordan are not ruled out.
