Consultancy for Support to Torit, Bentiu, Raja and Wau hospital in Biomedical Engineering
Background
Cordaid is a Dutch international NGO that has been in existence for 100 years. Cordaid’s vision is “A world rich with flourishing communities”. Cordaid’s mission is “To build flourishing communities in fragile and conflict-affected areas”. In South Sudan, Cordaid has a very strong track record for over 20 years, implementing multiple humanitarian and developmental projects directly and partially through local partners. As part of its activities in South Sudan, Cordaid is supporting 5 hospitals across the country including Torit State hospital, Wau state hospital and Bentiu state hospital. In the previous HPF 1 contract, Cordaid procured equipment for diagnostic purposes for the three hospitals and hence there is need to support the healthcare workers to use the equipment and also ensure proper calibration and development of a maintenance regime for the equipment.
Purpose of the assignment:
To ensure all machine are operational in the three state hospitals and develop SoPs for maintenance of all medical equipment at three state hospitals.
Work to develop a maintenance schedule for all the medical equipment’s at the five hospitals
Objectives of the Assignment
Support the hospital administration in the operationalization of the equipment at Wau, Raja, Torit and Bentiu state hospitals. Develop guidelines for equipment maintenance for all the three sites and recommend supplies for use with the machine. Support and train the staff on proper use of medical equipment
The scope of Services and Tasks - the scope of the service entails the following:
i. Perform repairs and preventive maintenance for equipment at the4 state hospitals of Wau, Bentiu, Raja and Torit ii. Develop an updated equipment inventory for the three hospitals and check on required maintenance and repairs iii. Inspect and test biomedical equipment that is not in use at the four health facilities of Bentiu, Raja, Torit and Wau iv. Train health staff in the required routine care for biomedical equipment and develop simple maintenance plans for the equipment. v. Check on the equipment warranty and ensure the supplier complies with the warranties as agreed upon vi. Support installation of new biomedical equipment in Torit, Raja, Bentiu and Wau hospitals. vii. Any other support as may be required by the Health Program Manager
Outcomes of the Consultancy: The consultancy will result in a comprehensive plan for equipment maintenance being developed for the three state hospitals and the installation of the procure medical equipment in Wau and Bentiu specifically. Also, a maintenance schedule shall be developed for the three sites and shared with the hospital coordinators.
Lines of Communication: The consultant will report to the Health Program Manager in Juba and also to the Hospital Coordinators at the field level.
Timeframe:Working/duty Station: the activities will be accomplished in the field with travel to Wau, Bentiu, Raja and Torit
This will include the following:
- 1 month at Raja hospital
- 2 months at Wau hospital
- 1 month at Torit hospital
- 1 month at Bentiu state hospital
Experience requirements Candidate with sound academic background preferably in Biomedical Engineering with at least a diploma level training in Biomedical Engineering and 3 post qualification experience.
Note: This consultancy is open to South Sudanese nationals, Regional and international applicants. International applicants having prior work experience in South Sudan are desirable. The above-mentioned tasks to be performed are intended to be a guide and should not be viewed as an inflexible specification as it may be modified following discussion with the selected consultant or firm.
