Cordaid has been active in South Sudan for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on civil society capacity-building. Currently, it has programs in the area of emergency response, DRR, health, food security, Security & Justice, women leadership and investments.
Presently, Cordaid is expanding its program in different parts of the country. For that purpose, additional technical capacity is required.Therefore, Cordaid would like to recruit an Interim Accountant as detailed below,

The Interim Accountant reports to the Country Director. S/he will line manages the SWAT Team.
Purpose of the Position
The Interim Accountant, in liaison with the SWAT Team, takes responsibility for entering all transactions into the AX Accounting System. S/he works on building analytical tools to track budgeted vs. actual results and standardize the processes to facilitate timely and accurate financial reporting to support management in decision making.
Responsibilities and Accountability
- Maintain accurate accounting through Microsoft Dynamics AX, by booking of bank, cash and general journal transactions on a daily basis
- Prepare a monthly bank reconciliation for all bank accounts by matching the accounting balance with the bank / cash balance; analyse and resolve any discrepancies, and provide an explanation for any unreconciled items
- Maintain a work advance register (Juba and field offices) through the accounting system, reconcile and submit a monthly report on unliquidated work advances to the HR Manager for recovery through payroll.
- Reconcile the accounts receivables and accounts payable and inform staff about their outstanding advances.
- Reconcile and settle cross accounts on monthly basis.
- Ensure that all authorized transactions (payments, receipts, expense reports, partners reports, payroll, etc.) for the organization are captured in the accounting system and that expenditures are correctly coded in the system as per the approved budgets
- Verify the batches of the accurately captured transactions and upload to AX accounting system.
- Ensure application of the basic accounting principles, knowledge and techniques to analyse variances, assist in production of journals, and perform routine accounting activities.
- Review and ensure that all Treasury completed documentation are stamped PAID.
- Manage the documents filing system in the department and ensure that all transactions documents are filed chronologically as per the order of the recordings and are kept secure.
- Supervise and manage all staff reporting to this position and ensure effective delivery of work
- Assist the Programme Managers and SWAT Team in working on the accounting backlogs and cleaning up the balance sheet
- Train the newly hired Accountant
- Attend to any other duties as directed and instructed by the Country Director.
Qualifications and skills
- Advanced degree in Accounting and/or Finance Management.
- Holds a professional certification such as Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Proven IT or database management skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles with at least 4 year’s of General Ledger and Journal Entries experience.
- Strong skills in working with expenses, accounting and ability to reconcile accounts
- Extensive hands-on experience using accounting systems such as Pastel, SAGE, Sun systems and AX and with proven experience in data entry
- Working knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware with basic troubleshooting skills
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems with multiple variables.
