Cordaid has been active in South Sudan for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on civil society capacity-building. Currently, it has programs in the area of Emergency Response, DRR, Health, Food Security, Security & Justice, Women Leadership and Investments.
Presently, Cordaid is expanding its program in different parts of the country. For that purpose, additional technical capacity is required. Therefore, Cordaid would like to a Nutrition Manager as detailed below,
Nutrition Manager

The Nutrition Manager reports to the Program Manager – Health Care based in Torit
Purpose of this position:
To provide overall technical leadership and management support to the Nutrition projects in Torit state to ensure that the project meets their goals and objectives, with significant impact on target communities. Directly manage Cordaid Nutrition activities prepare and constantly update project Detailed Implementation and M&E plans. Effectively represent Cordaid in technical forums in Torit and report back to the Program Manager.
The Nutrition Manager will be responsible for the implementation of the ‘Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition’ (IMAM) projects in collaboration with partners. Program interventions are meant to contribute to South Sudan Ministry of Health effort in reducing malnutrition and promote child survival plan among children.
The Nutrition Manager will work closely with the County Health Department and junior Nutrition staffs at the various Nutrition centres for the effective implementation and linkage of the IMAM program with the community and Public Health Care Centre.
She/he is also expected to provide technical support to the nutrition team; and will provide oversight to the work of the Nutrition Supervisor, Nutrition Assistant, Community Nutrition Worker and or Community Nutrition Outreach Workers.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Oversight to community outreach and PHCC/U activities
- Provide oversight for outreach work and support the work of staff (Nutrition Supervisor /Assistant, Community Nutrition Workers (CNW) and Community Outreach Worker (COWs) in ensuring that program activities carried out at HFs are coordinated and linked to outreach work as guided by the National protocol.
- Ensure linkages between community outreach work and PHCC/U activities while liaising with partners including the County Health Department, HF staff and other community-based health workers in the catchment area.
- Ensure that set protocols and criteria for admissions and discharge of clients of the program are followed as guided by anthropometry measurements.
- Ensure coordination of field activities with the County Health Department, HFs, and Communities so that right resources are acquired and put to correct utilization.
- Work with CHD officials in developing community engagement strategies for program implementation including involvement of communities and local Authority leaders while ensuring they understand project objectives, their roles and commitment to the project
- Participate in the Nutrition Cluster meetings and Forums and ensure to manage and monitor feedback from partners and communities and take actions required.
- Manage the administrative component of the nutrition programme and liaise with the CO Health Team for support through the Program Manager.
Program monitoring
- Ensure activities are monitored and data collected for analysis, evaluation and learning impacted and is captured in conjunction with CHD, Outreach, PHCC teams and Program Manager and M&E Officer.
- Analyse the data collection in collaboration with the M & E and include the findings the required reports.
- Develop monitoring framework / plan together with the M & E Officer, CHD staff and other implementing partners to determine how monitoring will happen, the tools that will be used and how these tools will be used
- Ensure to provide capacity building to the nutrition team on use of tools in relation to the indicators. To provide clear procedure and their role in ensuring monitoring and data collection activities are done as planned and accurate and relevant data/information is collected.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor the implementation of the project, identify gaps and address the issues in collaboration with the Program Manager. Ensure follow-ups on the recommendation of previous filed visits are being conducted.
- Submit reports for OTP/TSFP/IYCF/ screening as per the programme requirement and in liaison with the Program Manager
Collaboration with Heath & Nutrition staff in the County
Liaise with both the County Health Department and project team on project activities; making sure that data and information collected from the field and PHCC including feedback are captured, documented, shared with appropriate accountable managers and stored/filed accordingly.
Manage and coordinate closely with nutrition program staff, and other relevant partners staff (community leaders, Ministry of Health (MoH, I/NGO) involved in community outreach activities to ensure that project field activities adheres to overall program objectives
Ensure that program activities in area of responsibility (at both PHCC and field) are captured and documented appropriately and shared with relevant people
Team management and Capacity building of Nutrition staff
- Support and manage the nutrition program staffs and provide the necessary training required for carrying out their roles in a knowledgeable and confident manner. Including training on management of acute malnutrition as per approved National protocol.
- Work with Human Resources Manager and Health Program Manager to ensure that JD’s are reviewed, developed and updated and ensure to conduct performance management evaluation for staff reporting to this position.
- Carrying out competency assessment for Nutrition Officer Supervisor, Community Nutrition Worker and Community Outreach workers and making recommendation for developing gaps
- Take charge in organising and facilitating program trainings including those training provided by consultants.
- Provide technical support and training where required to all Nutrition team members; supporting and liaising with PHCC health staff and providing on- the-job training and capacity build as required.
- Attend to any other duties as directed by the line Manager.
Qualifications and skills
- Minimum Qualification required: Degree in Nutrition or in related field with at least 2-year field experience. A Master Degree in Nutrition or Public Health will be an added advantage.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience with a minimum one year working experience directly relating to emergency health and nutrition
- Experience in management/coordination of community-based nutrition intervention preferably in emergencies such as IMAM
- Knowledge and practical experience of national therapeutic/supplemental feeding protocols/guidelines
- Knowledge and practical experience of Nutrition Survey Methodologies and Reporting
- Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation and monitoring
- Supervisory and coordination skills, training delivery and teamwork abilities
- Knowledge of international humanitarian benchmarks such as SPHERE Standards
- Field experience of community mobilization
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office application and Internet
