Cordaid has been active in South Sudan for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on civil society capacity-building. Currently, it has programs in the area of Emergency Response, DRR, Health, Food Security, Security & Justice, Women Leadership and Investments.
Presently, Cordaid is expanding its program in different parts of the country. For that purpose, additional technical capacity is required. Therefore, Cordaid would like to recruit a Medical Specialist: Pediatrician as detailed below,

The Pediatrician reports to the Hospital Technical Coordinator
Purpose of the position
The Paediatrician is in charge of the department in which he/she is a specialist in the hospital and will manage all matters related to the department and be a member of the Hospital Technical Management Team and also support the state to build the capacity of healthcare workers in the hospital and other hospitals in the state.
The role will also involve significant capacity building (in-house training of residents and medical students) tasks in the hospital and possibly offer lectures within the Health Training Institute in Torit.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Ensure medical services of high and consistent quality in the departments one will be in charge of and ensure all supplies and equipment are availed.
- Take part in the senior management meetings of the hospital and ensure the departments' concerns are dealt with.
- Take part in grand rounds and CMEs for the facility staff and ensure that the capacity of the staff in the department is improved in order to improve quality of care.
- Monitor the activities of the department; both technically and administratively while ensuring high-quality services are rendered. Represent the department in various inter-departmental meetings.
- Assist in any administrative tasks at the hospital if delegated by the hospital Medical director
- Participate in the hospital quality review and audit sessions and organize departmental audit and review meetings
- Adhere to, supervise, enforce that all department staff maintain all medical safety procedures and apply the highest hygienic standards
- Remains accountable for the overall performance of the department and ensures that staff operating in the department are equally accountable for their time and services.
- Performing additional tasks or duties as assigned during the period of employment.
- Plan and ensure adequate (24 hours including night shifts) coverage of the department
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized University by the Government of South Sudan or in your Country of origin.
- Master’s degree in a relevant specialization (pediatrics)
- Ability to plan and facilitate clinical training and grand rounds on a regular basis (daily or weekly depending on staffing levels at the department)
- A good understanding and experience of working with County Health Officials, State Ministry Officials, Donors and Un agencies
- Previous experience of working in South Sudan hospitals is considered an advantage
- Ability to work in resource-constrained regions.
- Have an understanding of the broad range of medical disaster management.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to generate departmental reports (both narrative and analysing data)
