Cordaid has been active in South Sudan for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on civil society capacity-building. Currently, it has programs in the area of Emergency Response, DRR, Health, Food Security, Security & Justice, Women Leadership and Investments.

Presently, Cordaid is expanding its program in different parts of the country. For that purpose, additional technical capacity is required.Therefore, Cordaid would like to recruit a Nurse Anaesthetist as detailed below,

Reporting Line:

The Nurse Anaesthetist reports to the Hospital Coordinator in Raja.

Overall Job summary

The Nurse Anaesthetist will be part of the team ensuring delivery of quality CEMONC and other surgical procedures in Raja State hospital. He/ she will assist the surgeons during procedures to ensure safe anaesthesia administration for patients, good management of operation space and equipment and when necessary provide nursing care to patients and perform minor procedures were need be.

Procedures are conducted by the hospital staffs for both major and minor surgery which are mostly due to basic emergencies or routine - elective surgeries. The Nurse anesthetist will assist the surgeon during procedures to ensure safe anesthesia administration for the patient and at times, the nurse anesthetist will also be called upon to perform the duties of regular theatre nurses and may be required to perform minor procedures where need be.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in Preparing patients for Surgery and obtain informed consent prior to any procedures on the patient.
  2. Perform pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and document results
  3. He/she will ensure and administer general and local anesthesia to patients
  4. Monitor patients during and after surgical procedures
  5. Follow all instructions of the surgeon and theatre supervisor
  6. He/she ensure that there is track inventory of surgical supplies and should notify supervisors immediately in case of any shortages
  7. Assist theatre staff in keeping a sterile environment in the theatre and recovery ward
  8. Participate in training theatre nurses in basic principles of anesthesia
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  10. Request anesthesia equipment repairs, adjustments, or safety tests on regular basis or when need be.
  11. Develop anesthesia care plans.
  12. Ensure wound dressing of OPD, Maternity, and Surgical departments are done as instructed by the doctors
  13. Responsible for weekly and monthly theatre indicators submission to HMIS Officer
  14. Filing gaps as registered nurse and Assist the SNO delegation duties (in her leaves), Monitor in-patient vitals, and assist in administration medications in Wards.
  15. Attend all and make presentation on schedules continuous medical education on relevant theatre topics.eg Infection prevention, patient safety in theatre, obtaining informed consent/ascent etc.
  16. Ensure routine drugs/medicines/consumable are requested in time for theatre use.
  17. Attend to other duties as directed by the line manager

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma or Certificate in anesthetist from a recognized institution of South Sudan or other Country.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant experience in preferably hospital setting
  3. Ability to work well with adverse group of people
  4. Ability to think clearly and respond practically and professionally in emergency situations
  5. Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  6. Fluent in English and knowledge of Arabic and the local language of the will be an advantage
  7. Honesty and dedication to work is highly desirable for this position.
  8. Will be available on call for surgical emergencies 24/7
